North Wales Coast Diesels
ISBN: 9 780955 235412
Daily locomotive hauled services along the North Wales Coast ceased at the end of 2008. To commemorate almost 50 years of Diesel locomotive use on this part of the railway network I have published North Wales Coast Diesels - 1959 to 2008.
It covers every class of locomotive to have been used in North Wales on the mainline west of Shotton and along the branches to Denbigh, Dyserth, landudno,Trawsfynydd, Caernarfon and Amlwch as well as the Holyhead Breakwater railway.
A section is dedicated to each locomotive type including industrial shunters as well as images of people responsible for operating them. Details of interesting workings, firsts and lasts etc are included alongside extended photo captions.
A4 size, 96 pages softbound it includes over 200 black and white and 70 colour images, almost all of which have never been published before.
Photo highlights include the first Diesel to be based in North Wales, class 40 D233 in October 1959, the first visit of a Diesel to the Conwy Valley line, class 20 D8036 in February 1961 and class 27 D5406 on a timetabled passenger working to Llandudno in May 1964!
This is a must for all modern traction enthusiasts and I am sure will bring back memories of a time that will unfortunately never be repeated.
