Aureol Print

This print is one of a limited edition of 200 taken from a painting by Ian Walmsley. A good friend of mine, Ian is a member of the Guild of Railway Artists and runs the excellent “Whamart” site which contains a large number of railway related images and a number of his other paintings.

The painting was produced from a photograph of mine taken in June 1981. It depicts 40012 “Aureol” climbing out of Holyhead passing alongside our farm on a Manchester bound working. I took a number of photographs at this location during the late 70’s and early 80’s, some of which are included in my book “Class Forties to Holyhead”.

I decided to release the print to commemorate the return to the Mainline of the Class Forty in November 2002. The first copies were sold on this trip on Saturday November 30th. Named “The Christmas Cracker 1V” the tour ran from Crewe to Holyhead and back behind recently Mainline registered 40145 following years of hard work and dedication by the Class Forty Preservation Society.

After so many years service to North Wales it was quite fitting that the return to Mainline class 40 tour ran to Holyhead and the headboard carried that day now has pride of place on my office wall as a permanent reminder of a great day in Diesel Locomotive preservation history.

At the time of writing I have just over 30 prints left, mostly those in the lower number range. If you are interested in purchasing one, follow the link below. In addition, if you have any specific number in mind, drop me an e mail and I will let you know which ones I have left.

Costing only £9.95 plus £2.95 p&p, each print measures 20x16 inches and is printed on high quality art paper. It is numbered and signed by the artist and supplied with a certificate of authenticity in a tube. The image below shows “Aureol” double mounted and framed in mahogany style frame. I can also supply prints framed in this way for an additional £49.95 which includes postage and packing.
